In his mid-40s, Cal Weaver who is played by Steve Carell is living the perfect life. That is, until he suddenly discovers that his Emily, wife played by Julianne Moore cheated on him. Thus begins a new chapter in Cal’s life as he starts divorce proceedings and finds out what being single means all over again – in 2011.

Who should present himself but a 30 year old player called Jacob Palmer who is played by the irrepressible Ryan Gosling. Thus starts an unlikely comedic adventure which is similar to a rollercoaster ride many middle-aged men can relate to.

While strictly the film can’t be tags as a romantic film, it does have its moments. More obvious are the fresh and funny ideas on how a man handles being single. Crazy, Stupid Love, directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa is a typical Carell movie. It’s funny on the surface which is great for anyone who just wants a laugh. But on the other hand, it has its darker side about the trauma of suddenly not being a couple and confused about sex, being a man, and feeling emotional.

Steve Carell weaves his magic once again and plays a typical confused all-American guy who’s adorable and slightly off-key. His bumbling mistakes become endearing without going overboard into slapstick which makes the film smart and easily enjoyable. In other words, he doesn’t go over the edge and look like he’s working too hard for the million dollar paycheck he’s getting.

Naturally, being men, their strategy in the film is to seek and find as many women sex partners as they can to validate what happened with the cheating wife. Unfortunately, other things are happening at the same time on the home front which puts a lot of twists into the plot. Towards the end of the film, everything has to be resolved, and this is where the film drags a bit. Too many loose ends to resolve dampens the finale’ but manages to retain its whimsical commitment to being about the realities of marriage and a looming divorce.

The film is worth your money and your time. The actors are flawless in their portrayals, and the story is funny with a major dose of disguised realism.

Accounting work is certainly one of the most difficult desk jobs because of the amount of details one has to deal with. In Japan accounting is a highly respected career mainly because the Japanese have made it globally acceptable. The Japan accounting procedures have gone through many changes to get to where it is now. That place is being acceptable under international accountancy standards and accepted worldwide.

However, even accountants in Japan need a break to relax and unwind. Movies are one of the more pleasant activities to consider when you want an accountant to unwind. Here are some of the movies made in the U.S. about money, but not in a direct way so as to remind accountants that there’s work yet to be done. After all, an accountant’s job is never ending as long the something is being bought or sold in the company.

A great new classic is the movie, Christmas with the Kranks starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis. Tim Allen plays an accountant whose sole purpose in the 2004 film is to save money. The film was based on the popular John Grisham book, Skipping Christmas. It’s a delightful family film that ends with the expected holiday cheer.

Accountants will love the fact that Allen’s character equates the holidays with a detailed spreadsheet of all their expenses and decides a better way to spend the funds. Forbes.com had a field day with this film and even put down their personal breakdown last 2005 and said that skipping the holidays and gift giving would mean a savings of about $750.68!

Another amazing movie is Indecent Proposal which is something you can watch more than once. The film headlines Demi Moore, Robert Redford, and Woody Harrelson, and poses the morality of being paid for sex. Accountants are often faced with moral issues about legitimate expenses that can be charged to a business, and paying the right taxes without using a little calculator magic.

Trading Places and Jerry McGuire are also contemporary films about how money can corrupt with good triumphing over evil. But the all-time epic movie about money must be the 1946 film, It’s a Wonderful Life starring Cary Grant. In this movie, he plays George Bailey who defaults on his loan and is facing his savings and loan clients who are in danger of losing everything also. A wonderful miracle happens and he discovers life is worth living and friendship is worth a lot more than just mere pleasantries.

Let your accountant watch any of these movies and you’ll see how relaxed he or she will be after “The End.”

Many movies like the Bad Boys 2, The Dark Knight and Herbie Fully Loaded involve car chase scenes performed by professional stuntmen. A few famous Classics cars that were used by stunt men in delivering car stunts in movies include Pontiac Trans-Am, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge charger and the Aston Martin DB5. Most Movie cars are available for auction right after the success of a movie. Japanese used trucks for sale are often bought by action movie makers. These trucks are excellent vehicles for fierce car chase scenes. These Japanese trucks are also used in car explosion scenes. Therefore, there is an increase in the number of Japanese used trucks for sale in the market.

The matrix reloaded was one of the most popular movies of its time, and a reason behind its popularity was its spectacular stunts. The famous car used by Mr. Bean is the MK IV British Leyland Mini 1000, and the car used by Miami Vice policemen is the Ferrari Daytona Spyder. A lot of movie makers auction the cars used in their movies. Some of the famous movie cars include, the MONSTERGLADE which was featured in the movie “Headlights and Tailpipes” and Eldorado is one of the most famous cars and it was featured in the movie “Gone in 60 Seconds”.

Who can forget the famous little Herbie featured in the Walt Disney Blockbuster Lindsey Lohan starrer “Herbie Fully Loaded”. All the car racing scenes in “Herbie Fully Loaded” were performed by a stunt driver. The 1958 Plymouth Fury is a famous car which was used in the movie “Christine” by John Carpenter and Steven King. Another famous car featured in the movie “Dick and Jane” by Jim Carry is the 1991 BMW, this car is truly an eye candy, it is simply stunning. The recent Eddie Murphy movie “Norbit” featured the 1980 MGB, the car was custom built for the movie and had gold plated wheels and car body was painted purple. Hollywood movie makers are loaded with money and they use it lavishly on featuring the best cars in their movies.

3) The current showing movie worth watching is Thor: Starring Chris Hemsworth an arrogant warrior who learns to be a true hero when thrown amongst human beings gets to learn what a true hero really is.

4) Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides featuring half naked mermaids and Penelope Cruz. This movie brings with an action packed movie worth watching.

5) And finally the Green Hornet a super hero and action packed movie. This particular movie was released in January but would make a fantastic summer blockbuster anyway, and is starring stars like Seth Rogen and Jay Chou amongst others.

There has been immense influx in advent of film production equipment along with advance technology. Video production equipment still proves to be affordable and can be easily learnt about. There is easy access to the video equipment which makes it easy for one to try their hand at film production. This is a motivating factor for several beginners. These recent advancements have made it affordable and encouraging for independent films to flourish. Dry cabinets are essential and affordable solutions for storing all sorts of film production equipment. Editing equipment, stabilization equipment, dry cabinets, quality lighting and other essentials which are required have proven to be affordable too.

While videos are essential when one makes a film, the role of still photography in the making of the same cannot be undermined. In that case one needs to use the equipment for drying the film has immense importance. Thus the user needs to ensure that the drying equipment needs to have a gush of gentle, dry and filtered air is a must. The circulation of the air should be even and have a uniform rate. The process should take place in a dust free environment. Thus the versatility of the drying equipment is a very important factor.

The drying equipment plays an important role in the making of the film. Apart from that there are several other film production essentials which go into making of the film. There are tracks, tripods, boons, cranes, lifts, dollies and others which are very important as support equipment for the camera. Moreover, one needs to take in account of the cars, trucks and several other vehicles which would be needed for transportation of a lot of other equipment. There would be specialized equipment which would be needed for enhanced video and audio effects apart from the basic recording equipment. In fact in certain scenes in movies which need equipment to create a particular effect for instance climate control equipment is one example.

The above is not the end when one is creating a film. One would need editing equipment which would help in finalizing the video when one is done with the creation of their masterpiece. These editing tools may involve other categories like duplication, sound mixing, and editing softwares among several others.

There are several vendors who provide one with the drying equipment along with all the others too. One should choose one which has good quality, technical excellence, quality service and fair pricing!

One of the main reasons people go to the movies is to experience something they never would in real life. This is why movies set in ‘exotic’ locations in the East are so popular in the West like America and Australia. To many of us in these countries, we may never get the chance to personally see Tokyo or Beijing in with our own two eyes, so we escape through watching them in films.

But through advances in technology, we can be watching a film that’s set in Japan but it could be filmed anywhere else around the world. For those among us who want to see the ‘real’ Japan in the movies, below are five films that were actually filmed there.

Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

This movie is the third in the Fast and the Furious franchise, and it centres on a young American man who gets involved in the illegal street racing scene in Japan. Most of this movie was actually filmed in Japan, but some of it is LA dressed up to look like Tokyo. Watch this with your friends and see if you can spot which is Japan and which is America.

Letters from Iwo Jima

A movie directed and co-produced by Clint Eastwood, this film is about the Battle of Iwo Jima from the view point of two Japanese soldiers. This is filmed in Japan, but dressed to look like the past.

The Last Samurai

Starring Tom Cruise, this movie is, again, set in the past, and is about a troubled American soldier who finds peace in a Japanese village.

Kill Bill

Sections of both volumes of this action epic are filmed in Japan, when events from the past lead the character overseas.

The Grudge

A remake of the original Japanese horror movie, this movie was filmed in Japan and directed by the original director. People say that Japanese horror movies are the scariest; watch this to see if you agree.

Here we are again, for another thrilling installment of me rambling about some movie that fills me with joy.

So what film shall I be babbling about today?

Ishirō Honda‘s (本多 猪四郎) DESTROY ALL MONSTERS!!!

My love for Godzilla movies goes all the way back to when I was about 7 or 8 years old and Channel 4 in the UK had a special at Christmas showing all godzilla movies that had been made up to that point. I was transfixed by them. I had no idea what was going on in the bizarre plots, but that didn’t matter in the slightest. There were giant monsters on screen fighting each other and crushing cities. It was one of the greatest things I had ever seen. I didn’t notice that the monsters were men in rubber suits and that the buildings were actually only 6 inches tall. That was utterly irrelevant, because I was in destructive beastie heaven.

Not necessarily my favorite of the movies, Destroy All Monsters gives you the most monster bang for your bucks.

The plot of the film is fantastically bizarre; In the year 1999 (the future in the film) all of the world’s monsters (怪獣, kaijū) have been gathered together on one island by the United Nations Science Committee.

A special control center is constructed underneath the island to ensure the monsters stay secure, and serve as a research facility to study them.

When communications with Monster Island are suddenly and mysteriously severed, and all of the monsters begin attacking world capitals. Dr. Yoshida of the UNSC orders Captain Yamabe and the crew of his spaceship, Moonlight SY-3, to investigate Ogasawara. There, they discover that the scientists, led by Dr. Otani, have become mind-controlled slaves of a feminine alien race identifying themselves as the Kilaaks, who reveal that they are in control of the monsters. Their leader demands that the human race surrender, or face total annihilation.

Godzilla attacks New York City, Rodan invades Moscow, Mothra lays waste to Beijing, Gorosaurus destroys Paris, and Manda attacks London, which is set in to motion to take attention away from Japan, so the aliens can establish an underground stronghold near Mt. Fuji in Japan. The Kilaaks then turn their next major attack on Tokyo, and without serious opposition, become arrogant in their aims, until the UNSC discover the Kilaaks have switched to broadcasting the control signals from their base under the Moon’s surface. In a desperate battle, the crew of the SY-3 destroy the Kilaak’s lunar outpost and return the alien control system to Earth.

With all of the monsters under the control of the UNSC, the Kilaaks unleash their hidden weapon, King Ghidorah. The three-headed space monster is dispatched to protect the alien stronghold at Mt. Fuji, and battles Godzilla, Minilla, Mothra, Rodan, Gorosaurus, Anguirus, Kumonga, Manda, Baragon, and Varan. While seemingly invincible, King Ghidorah is eventually overpowered by the combined strength of the Earth monsters and is killed. Refusing to admit defeat, the Kilaaks produce their trump card, a burning monster they call the Fire Dragon, which begins to torch cities and destroys the control center on Ogasawara. Suddenly, Godzilla attacks and destroys the Kilaak’s underground base, revealing the Earth’s monsters instinctively know who their enemies are. Captain Yamabe then pursues the Fire Dragon in the SY-3, and narrowly achieves victory for the human race. The Fire Dragon is revealed to be a flaming Kilaak saucer and is destroyed.

Let me preface this by saying that this is my list, not an ultimate list that must be obeyed. There are so many great Japanese movies in existence that putting them into any kind of list is difficult. You should also note that this is not a top 5, it’s just a short list of 5 movies I happen to love. They are in no way obscure - in fact, I’m sure most of you reading this have at least heard of all these movies.

Let’s begin! Here is the first of 5 recommended Japanese movies.

1: Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo

One of my all time favorite movies, the impact of this film on me and in popular culture cannot be denied. It was not the first Japanese film I saw as a kid, but it was certainly the first one I remember making me think Japan was amazingly cool and futuristic. I don’t think I fully understood at the time that the movie itself is set in the future, but I was only about 11 when I first saw it…which might not be any kind of excuse. The overwhelming success of the film in the UK led to the creation of Manga Entertainment. They distributed all of the anime movies I watched in the early 90’s. I am by no means a anime or manga “otaku”. In fact, like most genres of media the majority of anime/manga does little for me. But this film has stayed with me since the first time I watched it. Even now when walking around Tokyo I see areas of the city that remind me of Akira (just as much as they remind me of Blade Runner).

I will be one of the first to admit the film is rather confusing. With so many plot lines running at once it can bedifficult to follow and even more difficult to explain what is actually going on in the film to someone who has never seen it.

Regardless, do yourself a favor, sit down and watch it, if for no other reason than it is a beautiful movie with amazing music and sound design.
